In July 2009 Artificial Life completed a private placement of common stock. In this context, Corporate Finance Partners’ co-investment fund CFP & Founders Investments together with other renowned investors has now become shareholder in Artificial Life. Shares have been purchased at market price. In addition, the investors received warrants for the purchase of additional shares of common stock within a two years time period.
CFP & Founders Investments and its lead investors are impressed especially by the strong growth of Artificial Life and the company’s excellent positioning within the mobile broadband applications industry. Artificial Life profits mostly from the early focus (since 2004) on mobile content for broadband networks, 3G phones and smart phones when this market was still in its infancy. Artificial Life can be seen as one of the global market leaders in this space and one of the fastest growing companies in Asia which has recently been recognized by Deloitte. Revenues for the year ended December 31, 2008, were USD 22.5 million, compared to USD 5.8 million for fiscal year 2007. Net Income for the years were USD 10.6 million compared to USD 1.0 million respectively.
In 2008, approximately 57% of the company’s revenues derived from mobile games, while approximately 23%, 14%, and 4% of the overall revenues derived from the sales of non game related mobile products such as the new MobileBooster™ productivity tool, the mobile business health care application Mobil Diab™ and the award winning mobile to TV interface technology and platform MoPA-TV™.
The funding gives Artificial Life more financial flexibility to pursue new business opportunities, to finance its receivables and to develop new products. Additional growth in 2009 is – among others – expected from Artificial Life’s excellent positioning within the iPhone mobile games market.
In total, the company sells its products through over 1,150 active channels of resellers and carriers around the globe. Overall, more than 10 million licenses of Artificial Life’s mobile games were sold in Q1 2009.
